Research Colloquium: Writing in a Country of Illiteracy / Écrire en Milieu d'Illétrisme
13.06.2017, 14 c.t., GW I - S125
Since it is the first time the Institute of African Studies has invited a writer from the Island of Mayotte, here in Bayreuth, in my communication, I will briefly introduce the Comoros Archipelago. I will then point out the major social reasons which underline why the inhabitants from the Union of the Comoros and Mayotte are the last French-speaking people in the Western Indian Ocean to become writers. In the End, I will set up a short literature photography or landscape showing the birth places of the early writers from the Union of the Comoros and from the French Department of Mayotte and mainly where they started their works because whatever they wrote, they did it once abroad for they all once belonged to the diaspora.
