The "Brazilian" Community in Ouidah and the Ending of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade

Robin Law’s chief research interests are in the history of pre-colonial West Africa, the Atlantic
Slave Trade and its abolition.
He published – among many other topics – about the social history of Dahomey and the port town
of Ouidah (modern Benin). His current projects include the publication of the journals of Louis
Fraser, British Vice-consul to the Kingdom of Dahomey in 1851-2, and a study of the effects of European
