The University of Bayreuth offers a variety of Africa-related degree courses: in recent years there has been an on-going process in which the Magister and Diplom degree courses are being phased out and replaced by the interdisciplinary, application-oriented Bachelor's (BA) and Master's (MA) courses that are now being offered in many subjects. Most disciplines also offer Ph.D. degrees. For more information on the doctorate programme, see BIGSAS and Further graduate research.
Students taking these courses profit from the interdisciplinary competence of the many scholars in Bayreuth involved in research related to Africa. Through the establishment of the MA programmes, the links between teaching and research have been intensified: Especially MA students are able to profit from the extensive range of courses offered by academics invited from abroad by the IAS. Young researchers are also recruited from these programmes.
