The aim of the project is mainly to analyze the transfer of Occidental media in Sub-Saharan Africa (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Senegal) and the forms of appropriation and transformation. Through the examples of three Francophone countries and selected research fields. It will concentrate on press, television and internet, their forms, genres and contents, in order to analyze to which extent the mediascape is the sphere where oral communication forms and imported media formats negotiate the “prise de parole”. The cooperative structure of the project will allow profiting from the complementary and converging competences and research interests of the German and African scholars composing the group. Furthermore, by combining various approaches developed in the European, American and African context, the group aims at the conceptualisation of methods that will be developed for given African realities, so that media studies and the development of media competence will become part of the formation programs in order to develop a media competence facing the increasingly rapid transfers in the mediascapes.
