The University Library has an extensive collection of Africa-related media (special location in the BIG building, shelfmark 55) with approximately 136,000 books, over 3,000 audiovisual materials with a total of about 30,000 items, and 199 current journals. Despite its young age, the Bayreuth University Library is thus one of the best in Germany in respect of media relating to Africa. Due to difficult financial circumstances, the acquisition of Africa-related media has unfortunately had to be restricted in recent times.
