- 3) Which guest stay applications can be funded?Hide
-
Guest stays (max. 2 months) aim at carrying out collaboration projects within the framework of African Studies at UBT (research proposals, networking, publications). Results aim at sustainable networking activities of the IAS with its partner institutions in Africa.
- 4) How do you apply for guest stay funds?Hide
-
Please send your cover letter with a) a short description of the project proposal (1 page) and b) a brief finance plan in digital form to IAS@uni-bayreuth.de as well as a CV of the guest in question.
The application will be discussed in the next Steering Committee meeting. IAS SC meetings take place three times each semester. For concrete dates and deadlines, see here. - 5) How will you be informed about the outcome of your application?Hide
-
After the Steering Committee meeting has taken decision, you will receive a notification letter (approval or decline of your application). In this letter further details and information will be given on how to plan the guest stay and how your guest will get refunded after the stay at UBT has been completed.
PLEASE NOTE: The IAS would like to encourage and increase the application rate of female scholars (we would like to support a minimum of 50% female scholars visiting IAS per year). - 6) Where will you work as an IAS Guest?Hide
-
All IAS guests are expected to carry out their residency at the FZA. The Centre of African Studies (FZA) provides dedicated workspace as well as access to meeting, seminar, and conference rooms. It offers an excellent research environment that enables IAS-funded guests to be fully integrated into the institute’s academic activities throughout their stay. The innovative office concept of the building tries to avoid the allocation of individual single-space offices. You can read more about FZA here.
- 7) What obligations are associated with the guest application?Hide
-
The visiting researcher is obliged to submit a short report one week before his/her departure. The report should primarily explain the reasons for choosing UBT, the activities during the stay and the added value for future academic work (research).

PLEASE NOTE: The IAS would like to encourage and increase the application rate of female scholars (we would like to support a minimum of 50% female scholars visiting IAS per year).
