City Talks at Iwalewahaus: „Afrika anders denken – weniger Hilfe, mehr Partnerschaft?

On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the University of Bayreuth, in collaboration with the Bavarian Junior Chamber, invites you to a public forum titled “Rethinking Africa – Less Aid, More Partnership?” at the Iwalewahaus. This evening event marks the kickoff for the Bavarian Africa Forum, which will take place on May 7, 2026, on the University of Bayreuth campus and will address the question: “How much of Bavaria is in Africa – and how much of Africa does Bavaria’s future need?”
Afrikaforum Bayern: Date/Time/Location: Wednesday, May 6, starting at 6:00 p.m., open to the public.
Venue: Iwalewahaus, corner of Wölfelstraße and Münzgasse, Bayreuth
Admission is free; registration is not required.
Africa Forum Bavaria: Date/Time/Location: Thursday, May 7, starting at 9:00 a.m., open to the public.
Venue: Research Center for African Studies (FZA) at the University of Bayreuth. Admission is free; registration is requested at: https://afrika-forum.bayern/
At the City Talk, visitors can look forward to an exciting panel discussion featuring high-profile guests from academia, business, and international development cooperation. The focus will be on how new financial models can contribute to greater global participation.
The panel discussion will feature, among others, Natalie Schrogl (Cassini Consulting AG / Africa First Network), Prof. Dr. Stefan Ouma (University of Bayreuth), Heribert Trunk (Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Upper Franconia, Bayreuth), and Marie-Claire Bartmann (Impacc, Nairobi). The discussion will be moderated by Mary Njeri (AiDiA – Afro-German Startup Pitch, Berlin).
Under the title “Beyond Capital – New Financial Architectures for Genuine Participation,” the event will open with a keynote address, followed by a discussion that will explore innovative perspectives on financing approaches between Europe and Africa.
Afterward, all visitors are invited to actively participate in an open Q&A session. The public forum is aimed at all interested citizens as well as stakeholders from business, academia, and civil society.
The event ends around 7:30 p.m. Following the event, an internal gathering of the Junior Chamber will take place at the Iwalewahaus.
