afriZert Certificate Programme
Funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Science and the Arts (StMWK)
Developed at the Institute for African Studies (IAS), afriZert is a unique interdisciplinary programme open to students at all Bavarian universities.
The programme is designed to enable students to gain a foundational level of Africa-related knowledge, regardless of their primary study objective. By bridging academic theory and practical application, afriZert helps students engage with African lifeworlds beyond common stereotypes.
Curriculum & Focus
Our wide-ranging learning experience focuses on orientation, reflection, transfer, and application. Courses cover history, diversity, and industry-related insights into key focus areas of the continent.
Accessibility
Designed for flexibility, content is primarily asynchronous, allowing students across Bavaria to participate regardless of their physical location.
International Exchange
Interpersonal and intercultural exchange is at our core, anchored by a mandatory stay abroad to foster real-world engagement.
Teaching & Language
Lessons are delivered in both German and English, featuring experts from across Bavaria, international partners, and industry actors.
The aim of afriZert is to help students perceive the African continent as a multifaceted space of discourse — a home to a wide variety of living and working environments, and to global political, social, and economic interdependencies.
