Trauma – Slavery, Memory + Collective Healing
This event explores the enduring impacts of slavery, the role of memory, and pathways toward collective healing. Bringing together experts from academia and cultural practice, the lecture and panel aim to foster critical reflection and open the long overdue dialogue between Africa and the Diaspora.
Program:
5:00 PM – Keynote Lecture Dr. Joy DeGruy (Morehouse College, USA) Researcher, author, and educator Dr. Joy DeGruy’s research on trauma and the enduring legacies of American slavery provides a powerful framework for understanding how historical and contemporary anti-Blackness has shaped adaptive behaviors within African American communities and offers pathways toward collective healing. Her work also speaks to other communities that have experienced cultural assault and are engaged in processes of repair.
