Building
The Research Centre for Africa (FZA) is a top-notch research facility that brings together academic staff and guests doing research in African Studies and related fields.
Additionally, we invite all Master students at UBT who are currently doing their Master thesis on an Africa-related topic to make use of the workspaces in the open-plan offices (Open Creative Labs) at the FZA. This is in line with the buildings mandate to foster Africa-related research.
Working at FZA & Locker Access
IAS/Cluster guests, Junior Fellows, Cluster Fellows and research staff are welcome to use the open space offices (Open Creative Labs - OCL) in the building.
It is also possible to reserve regular worsktations in the OCLs, these will be allocated upon request and marced accordingly.
Should a quieter working environment be required further rooms can be used upon request. The usage is regulated as follows:
Scholars – Focus Room 2.06 & 2.07
The desks have no fixed allocation, the ‘first come, first served’ principle applies. It has to be ensured that desks are kept clean and that another person may use the workspace at any time if it is free.
Scholars – Silent Room 2.05
This room can be used for quiet work, subject to availability. The rules of use are the same as for rooms 2.06 and 2.07.

Recycling in Germany
Recycling is taken very seriously in Germany. It is considered an integral part of daily life and a crucial aspect of environmental protection. Here is a summary of the key rules.
Sunday Rule: Do not throw glass bottles into public containers on Sundays or public holidays due to noise regulations. Remove plastic caps from glass bottles and place them in the yellow bin.
Deposit (Pfand) System: You pay a deposit on most bottles and some cans. Return these to machines in supermarkets to get your money back.
