Ginette Ngo Mintoogue
Visited the IAS from October to December 2025
Mrs. Ginette Ngo Mintoogue, Doctor of Arts with a specialization in Aesthetics from the University of Lyon 2 (France), conducted a doctoral thesis entitled The Economic Viability of Theater Companies in Cameroon, exploring the challenges faced by Cameroonian theater companies in a context of financial precariousness and increasing dependence on funding from international organizations.
Her research, at the intersection of economic and financial, political, and cultural issues, focuses for instance on theater in the Greater Caribbean and Sub-Saharan Africa, addressing decolonial, environmental, and feminist issues, for example. She is currently involved in a collective project on maroonage in female and feminist theatrical expressions in Black Africa and the Caribbean.
Invited by the Institute of African Studies at the University of Bayreuth, she is collaborating with Prof. Dr. Melina C. Kalfelis on her postdoctoral project Behind the Scenes of Hybrid Theatres in Transition: Technology, Censorship, and Artistic Resistance in Urban Cameroon as part of her application for the Humboldt postdoctoral fellowship.
This work is also part of a broader reflection on the challenges of theatrical creation in the African political context and opens up new perspectives for interdisciplinary research. This stay proved to be extremely fruitful and stimulating for Mrs Ngo Mintoogue, allowing her to finalize her project, explore new avenues for interdisciplinary research, and expand her academic network.
She also participated in thesis defenses, seminars with internationally renowned researchers, and social activities, thereby multiplying opportunities for future collaborations.
