Helvi Ileka

Visited the IAS in November 2025

Helvi Ileka, is a Centre Head for the Centre of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at the Namibia Energy Institute, a National Research Institute at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).

She has over 15 years of expertise in Namibia’s Renewable Energy Sector, leading donor-funded initiatives in renewable energy and energy efficiency including the Pathway to Renewable Off-Grid Community Energy for Development (PROCEED) Project, a project implemented together with Bayreuth University and a consortium of other Germany University between 2019 and 2023. She conducted research in skills gap analyses in Green Hydrogen in Namibia and program development to support Namibia’s PtX study the project that brought her to Bayreuth University.

She visited in November 2025 to attend and present at the BayIntAn Green Hydrogen Workshop hosted by PD Dr Festus Boamah. The workshop was designed to build upon UBT’s networks, including Moi University, the Namibian Energy Institute (NEI), and the Namibian University of Science & Technology (NUST), with aim to develop new collaborations with emerging green hydrogen hubs such as the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) and Oman Hydrogen Centre (OHC), and discuss the latest developments in green hydrogen transitions and prepare a joint research grant proposal to The German Research Foundation (DFG). 

Ms. Ileka found the presentations in the Workshop very refreshing and educative. She had good opportunity to connect with old friends and senior colleagues in the Proceed project. She also got the chance to build a network with new Colleagues from the University of Technology in Oman and Oman Hydrogen Centre and Moi University.
